FREMONT — In a scene out of an action movie, thieves drove a pair of high-end sports cars off a showroom floor and through the windows of a dealership last month in Fremont.

On Wednesday, the Fremont Police Department announced both cars — a Porsche GT3 and a Porsche GT3 RS worth more than $500,000 combined — had been recovered and one suspect was in custody.

The theft happened around 12:45 a.m. on April 4 at a dealership in the 5000 block of Cushing Parkway.

Officers determined the cars’ direction of travel, and several hours later, detectives found the Porsche GT3 RS in Milpitas. The vehicle was returned to the dealership.

On April 5, detectives pinpointed the location of the Porsche GT3. The driver was identified as one of the suspects who stole the cars from the dealership, according to police.

Detectives arrested the driver — identified as a 22-year-old Hayward man — and recovered the GT3.

During the arrest, the man tried to toss a loaded handgun, police said, adding that a search of his home turned up several high-capacity rifles, stolen property, money and a police radio scanner.

The man was arrested on suspicion of driving or taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, conspiracy, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition, and resisting or delaying an officer.

The search is continuing for a second suspect, who remains unidentified, police said.

The Fremont Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying this person, who is suspected of stealing a Porsche from a dealership in Fremont on April 4, 2024. (Fremont Police Department)
