A 75-year-old woman was struck by a car and dragged 20 feet in the parking lot of the Paramus Public Library Saturday in “a distressing incident,” police said.

An investigation determined the woman, a Paramus resident, was in the crosswalk of the library’s parking lot at 12:45 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle and dragged, said Paramus Police Chief Robert M. Guidetti.

The woman had significant injuries and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center in a semi-alert state, police said.

Authorities did not announce any charges against the 94-year-old driver of the vehicle, who was also from Paramus.

”We urge all individuals to exercise caution and vigilance, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic,” Guidetti said in a press release.
