Video: US driver filmed as car launches off embankment

Police said the driver sustained “moderate but non-life threatening injuries” in the incident.

A motorist in the US has been captured on video driving their Honda CR-V off an embankment.

According to Oregon State Police – which shared the dashcam footage on Facebook – the driver behind the wheel “took their eyes off the road” before their vehicle continued straight through a corner, and landed 60 metres down an embankment.

The police dashcam video is datestamped 25 February 2024.

Police said the driver was able to escape the crashed vehicle – with emergency service workers deploying a “rope system” to carry the driver uphill to safety – where they were later taken to hospital and treated for injuries.

An Oregon State Police representative told US news outlet Motor1 the motorist “sustained moderate, non-life-threatening injuries.”

The website reports the driver did not receive an infringement notice for the incident.

Unlike Thelma and Louise, police say this was not a deliberate ploy to evade police but an unfortunate case of distracted driving.
