Lincoln car dealership catches fire; westbound Cornhusker Highway closed – KOLN

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Parts of Cornhusker Highway were closed on Monday due to a large fire which engulfed a Lincoln businesses. The fire was initially reported near North 23rd Street and Cornhusker Highway at 2:35 p.m.

According to LFR, crews were dispatched to Genesis Tires due to a report of an explosion and a car fire. Upon arrival, smoke was coming from the building. The fire was made more difficult due to southwest winds fanning the fire through the open garage doors. Due to the high intensity of the fire, crews could not enter the structure immediately.

Several parts of the building, including the roof and west wall, collapsed due to the fire.

A nearby business sustained smoke and heat damage due to the fire.

No individuals have been hurt due to the fire.

Lincoln-Lancaster County Emergency Management asks that drivers avoid the area and use either Superior street or Salt Creek Roadway for an alternate route.
