Hawk Auto To Build New Plainfield Dealerships, Move From Joliet – Patch

PLAINFIELD, IL — Hawk Auto, a new and used car dealership chain with locations across Illinois, will build a new facility in Plainfield, moving its Volkswagen and Cadillac businesses from Joliet, according to village documents.

Plainfield officials green-lit a proposal from Hawk Auto to construct a new dealership on a vacant, 89-acre parcel at 16761 Route 59, just north of Rolf Road and the Plainsman Terrace subdivision. The site would contain four separate buildings ranging in size from 16,900 square feet to 28,700 square feet, each housing a separate dealer.

Simon Design Group, based in Deerfield, will serve as the architect for the new dealerships.

During the village board’s March 4 meeting, trustees unanimously approved the site plan review and the final plat for the Hawk Auto subdivision, subject to compliance with the requirements of the village engineer, Plainfield Fire Protection District and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Cadillac and Volkswagen would take over the two southern buildings, documents state. Currently, they’re a mile and a half apart on West Jefferson Street, west of downtown Joliet.

The final plat for the site was approved on April 3, 2023, with the original parcel divided in half, one lot housing the dealership and the other containing stormwater detention and room for possible future development.

The Plan Commission heard Hawk Auto’s case at its Feb. 6 meeting and unanimously recommended the project to the Village Board. The application received a “favorable recommendation from all trustees present” during the Feb. 26 meeting.

In Joliet, Hawk Auto will continue to operate Chevrolet, Subaru and Mazda, the latter two of which have Plainfield mailing addresses.
